Scope of Book

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the genetic breeding and cultivation of asparagus in China, covering fundamental aspects such as botanical characteristics and conventional breeding methods, as well as advanced biotechnological approaches including molecular marker-assisted selection, transgenic modification, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, and polyploid induction. It also explores stress tolerance mechanisms—such as salt, drought, and heat resistance—and their molecular basis, supported by transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses. Additionally, the work highlights the development and characteristics of elite Chinese asparagus germplasm and varieties, offering valuable insights for researchers, breeders, and agricultural practitioners dedicated to asparagus improvement and sustainable production.
